The 36 fortune telling cards of Mademoiselle Lenormand (NL)

How many different versions of this world famous Mademoiselle Lenormand card game have ever been made is unknown. What is certain, however, is that there have been countless of them and that they have been given spectacular names such as Mlle Lenormand's Gypsy Cards, Mlle Lenormand's Cards Predicting the Future, etc.

It is also certain that with every new design more additions and inaccuracies - never intended by Mademoiselle Lenormand - have crept into the game. A striking example of this is Card 3, 'The Ship', which in one game is a clipper, in the other a Spanish Galleon and in another version even a steamboat. The used figures of the trump cards give a good picture of the randomness with which an attempt was made to give the game an extra exciting atmosphere, without taking into account the period during which the game had to be connected. For example, in some versions, both knights from the Middle Ages and musketeers from the 18th century are depicted in one game.

In this version of Mademoiselle Lenormand's completely new version of the Waarzegzegkaarten, the designer has for the first time represented the symbolism very expressively and - more importantly - correctly, creating a game that removes all ambiguities of these famous (and infamous) cards . This has made the maps and their interpretation more useful and accessible than ever before. It is therefore a pity that Mademoiselle Lenormand has not been able to view these 36 'new' maps of the so-called 'Oracle of Lenormand'; the modern interpretation of traditional symbolism was certainly appreciated.
